More than just a coffee cart

Dragon Brew is a student-run, school-based enterprise that provides transition-age students with authentic real-world job experience. Through intentional design and meaningful responsibility, students build transferable skills, confidence, and a strong sense of belonging—preparing them for life beyond high school.

An intentional design

Dragon Brew is a school-based coffee enterprise intentionally designed to give students genuine work experience in a supportive, structured environment. Rather than simulated activities, students take on real roles—serving real customers and managing operations, and developing transferable skills that align with their post-high school goals.

This program isn't just about making coffee; it's about building confidence, independence, and a pathway forward.

Who benefits most?

Dragon Brew is particularly beneficial for transition-age students—both with and without disabilities—who thrive through hands-on, real-world learning.

Participation in Dragon Brew equips students with workplace readiness skills, stronger social communication, problem-solving abilities, self-advocacy skills, and a growing sense of independence and belonging.

Skills for the future

Through Dragon Brew, students develop real-world skills, confidence, and a strong sense of voice.  Grounded in Jenny Allen-Price's work as an educator, author, and founder, the program blends lived-experience with research-informed transition practice to create meaningful outcomes for youth.

Beyond Dragon Brew

Dragon Brew serves as a school-based pilot for Next Step Coffee Co., demonstrating how structured, student-led enterprises can expand into paid employment, internships, and long-term career pathways beyond high school.
